The small and beautiful village of Tong has been there for hundreds of years, as the ancient settlement of Tong is mentioned in the Doomsday Book!
Tong Village is small but lively - with St James’ Church, Tong Village School Room to host many different activities and events, The Greyhound pub, Goodhalls Ice Cream Parlour, and lots of locals walks, it’s a great place to be.
St James' Church is a beautiful place to worship, and we welcome all people to come and join us as we meet with God.

If you’re interested in the history, St James Church is unique in being one of the only pre-Conquest church in West Yorkshire (almost all other churches were demolished and rebuilt by the Normans). Archaeological evidence reveals that Christian have worshipped on this site for over 1,000 years! It includes box pews, a triple decker pulpit with sounding board, an organ gallery and incorporates a Norman arch from the. The Church is grade 1 listed and much loved by the Georgian Society. We have two leaflets that give great information about the church.
We hold Sunday Services at St James every week, and follow a varying pattern of worship through the month including: Holy Communion, Morning Worship, Evening Prayer, and a service in the School Room called ‘Big Bible Breakfast’.
